June 21st marks summer solstice here in the UK – the longest day of the year – so what better time to get planning a day trip?! Birchbox staffers Penny and Mica are both hitting the road for 24 hours of fun in the sun (hopefully!) and we think their beauty must-pack list will provide a little inspiration for your own break. Here’s what they’re taking with them…

PENNY: 24 HOURS IN THE CITY

“This weekend I’m heading to a top secret city location for my best friend’s hen do. We’ve got loads of exciting stuff plans but it means I’ll be spending a lot of time on my feet. When I’m packing I’ll be looking for products that keep me looking radiant and put-together on-the-go – and always ready for a selfie!”

Pixi Glow Tonic To-Go
The name says it all with this product! Perfectly packaged for travel, this plastic pot contains 60 treatment pads that are soaked with Pixi Glow Tonic – a cult chemical exfoliator. Featuring 5% glycolic acid, you just sweep one of these pads over clean skin and it instantly tones, brightens, and sweeps away dead skin cells. It’s a great quick-fix for adding radiance to a dull complexion after a night out. Just don’t forget to use SPF if you’re using this in the morning!

Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray
I love that one of my favourite hair products comes in this handy travel-size – perfect for stashing inside my June Birchbag. Part-dry shampoo and part-texturiser, it’s a great multipurpose product to travel with as it not only absorbs excess oil in unwashed hair but it adds instant volume to even clean hair. I love that I can achieve laidback, beachy hair with plenty of oomph with just a few spritzes.

Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting Blush
Whilst I’m definitely a bronzer girl at heart, this beautiful blush is perfect for achieving a healthy glow without any effort. The Sensuous Rose shade is a soft, taupe-pink shade that glides onto skin to add a natural flush of colour.(Perfect if you’re going to be taking lots of photos!) It also comes in a gorgeous compact that’s perfect for popping in your handbag – the large mirror and handy brush mean you can touch-up when you’re out and about.

Caudalie Beauty Elixir
Finally, my ultimate must-have for a summer day trip is Caudalie’s beloved Beauty Elixir. (Hey, if Victoria Beckham is a fan then I must be in good company!) The great thing about this mist is that it has a multitude of uses – use it as a toner after cleansing, as a make-up setting spray, or just to rejuvenate skin throughout the day. It’s packed with eucalyptus, orange blossom, mint, and rose to refresh your complexion and also soothe your mind. It’s a lovely luxurious treat that I couldn’t be without.

MICA: 24 HOURS AT THE SEASIDE

“Brighton has to be one of my favourite towns in the UK! So, when it looks like we’re in for a sunny weekend, I love to hop on the train and head down to the seaside. With relaxing on the beach high on my priority list, I’m looking for fuss-free products that I can use quickly – as well as all-important sun protection.

Benefit Dream Screen
Although we should be wearing SPF every day, I definitely up the ante when it comes to summer. As someone with blemish-prone skin (lucky me!) I was always a bit nervous about applying sun cream to my face – until I discovered Benefit’s one. Although this is a whopping SPF 45, which is great for my pale skin, it’s so lightweight that you won’t even know you’re wearing anything. It sinks straight into skin and leaves behind a silky-matte finish – meaning it also doubles as an amazing make-up primer!

MeechNMia Browliner
I discovered this inside my June Birchbag this month (everyone receives a full-size MeechNMia Browliner in theirs!) and it’s the one make-up product that I won’t be leaving behind on my trip. Whilst I used to be a mascara girl, brows are now the one area that I’ll spend some time on when I want to feel put together. The great thing about this pencil is that it’s really precise so you can create as subtle or as bold a brow as you like. Plus, it’s got plenty of staying power so it won’t fade away in the sunshine.

Bumble and bumble. Don’t Blow It Thick (H)Air Styler
Not only is this air-drying product great for saving time on day trips, it’s also an absolute saviour on hot days at home! If you can’t stand the thought of blow-drying your hair in the heat then you’re in luck. You apply this lotion to wet hair and it works with your natural texture to create an undone style – without using any hot tools! I like to smooth it through then twist my hair into buns while it dries for a little extra oomph. This formula is specifically for thicker hair types, as it’s extra hydrating and smoothing, but there’s one for finer hair too!

ORIGINS Ginzing SPF40 Energy-Boosting Tinted Moisturizer
My final product is another amazing multi-tasker! New in The Birchbox Shop, this tinted moisturiser juggles several tasks at once. It protects skin from the sun with SPF 40, it evens out skin tone, adds glow thanks to energising coffee extracts, and it contains a natural-looking tint that adapts to your skin tone for just enough coverage. It’s great if you’re feeling a little tired or just don’t like the thought of going completely bare-faced at the beach.
